In previous work, we and others explored what difficulties neurodivergent software engineers face (see for example here and here for our own work, and here, here and here for work by colleagues). While offering interesting insights, these works have two important shortcomings:
- The reported experiences focus on perceptions of individuals. As with all perceptions, these might be highly subjective.
- Several of the highlighted difficulties and strengths individuals report relate to teamwork, an aspect which is not further explored in the linked studies.
Therefore, as a next step, we want to better understand how software teams work that include neurodivergent software engineers.
For this work, we are looking for software teams that include at least one neurodivergent team member in a technical role (e.g., software engineers, developers). We want to gather their experiences, both from the neurodivergent team members and their neurotypical peers (if any).
Teams that participate get the chance to reflect on their practices and experiences. Furthermore, they get insights into other teams’ practices. The exact extent of the collaboration will be discussed on a team-by-team basis, based on their individual circumstances.
If you are interested, please get in touch with the responsible, Dr. Grischa Liebel (grischal@ru.is), Associate Professor at Reykjavik University and Director of CRESS.
We looking forward to this collaboration!
